West Hills Mall – Ghana
Project Description
This award winning mall presents retail of an international standard to Accra. Seamless shopfronts serve Ghanaian, South African and European merchandise along a mall with high quality finishes. Continuous clerestory windows fill the mall volumes with ample daylight to coax the predominately external retail culture indoors. Restaurants overlooking a square, 5 cinemas, line shops all anchored by Shoprite and Palace (a local retailer comparable to Game). African andikra symbolism is represented abstractly via ‘duafe’ (beauty) comb walls, piercing the entrances and a stitching of dark bands of louvers tie the facades together. The overall theme was simplicity over complexity and capturing the unique spirit of Ghana.
