Sifiso Mkhabela is our bursary student at arc Pretoria and completed his first 3 years of study at the University of Pretoria. He joins our team for  a year of internship before going back to further his studies. His university days involved frequent visits for in-house mentoring and it is through his hard work and excellent year end design results that our team support him all the way. We asked him some questions to get to know him better:

Where are you from?

I am originally from the kingdom of Eswatini, where my family resides. I came to South Africa to study architecture. Fortunately, I got involved with ARC Architects during my first year of study at TUKS.

  1. Why ARC Architects?

ARC Architects is a firm that takes on the Big Projects, focusing mainly on retail and corporate architecture, which is my primary interest in the Commercial Industry. ARC is a company that thrives and aspires to set a trend for the Built Environment. It believes in everyone’s ability to develop and deploy their skills and potential, by exposing them to diverse design projects.

  1. What experiences have you gained at ARC Pretoria so far?

The engagement with clients and commercial suppliers has and continues to expose me to understand the different perspectives and approach towards the commercial world. It trains me to skillfully transcend academic skills and knowledge towards the business Industry.

  1. Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

Whilst I have the opportunity to both engage with my academic studies and the work field, I see myself having the relevant skills and insight to handle relatively complex projects, both locally and internationally that will bring ecological, social and economic solutions to our cities.

  1. What are your hobbies?

I am an artist by birth. I make freehand sketches, paintings and also love playing a piano. In the near future I would like to see how my artistic skills can integrate with my architecture work.

We wish Sifiso all the best and will keep you updated on his way to his dream!
